Using a Compass, Divider and Ruler, we’ll learn how to draw a variety of geometric ornaments original to Morocco. During each session, we'll draw together, ask questions and share—all the while, virtually visiting Morocco alongside artisan & author Hamza El Fasiki to gain a better understanding of the cultural and practical applications of the art. As Hamza takes you through the step-by-step process to draw Moroccan geometric ornaments, he will also play Andalusian Oud music.
These LIVE Workshops are open to anyone interested in learning about geometric arts and celebrating the richness of arts and crafts of the kingdom of Morocco, and Fes Medina in particular!
This May 2024
In this month of May2024, we will study, analyse and discuss the art of Moroccan geometry by focusing on selected Zallij patterns original to the Fes Medina.
This Live Course is composed of three sessions fit for Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced Levels. The course will feature patterns from two Zawiyas in Fes Medina: Moulay idriss II and Sidi Ahmed Tijani. This course will shed light on the cultural and technical meanings of geometric patterns within the context of the Fes Medina and the history of Moroccan patterns all the while following the historical Moroccan artisanal Qasma method.
