This apprenticeship project in Fes, Morocco aims to preserve and pass down traditional knowledge by providing art training to children. In a rapidly changing world, it is essential to ensure that the rich heritage of at-Tasṯīr: Moroccan Geometric Patterns, continues to thrive. Through a partnership between CRAFT DRAFT, the Medina Children's Library, Allal Ben Abdellah secondary school and local Master artisans from Fes, this project, aims at empowering young Fes Medina minds with the skills and techniques rooted in the city's artistic traditions.
A bit of context:
We began this journey back in 2023 with seven talented apprentices from primary schools across the Fes Medina. They embarked on a 15-month apprenticeship in Moroccan geometry, with opportunities to explore brass engraving, plaster carving, zellij tilework, wood painting, and guided visits to some of Fes’s most important historic sites.
Through their dedication and hard work, this first group mastered 45 geometric patterns and has now reached an exciting new stage. They are currently helping to train 15 new students at Allal Ben Abdellah Secondary School in Fes Medina, passing on their knowledge and teaching the same 45 geometric patterns they worked so hard to learn themselves.
Your support has not only provided essential tools—it has helped create a cycle of learning, mentorship, and cultural preservation. The children are proud of what they have achieved and incredibly thankful for the opportunities your generosity continues to make possible.
Thank you once again!

Currently, our young apprentices have received 15 new dividers, 15 new compasses, 15 new mechanical pencils, and plenty of refills to support their learning and creativity.
Upcoming Steps in the Apprenticeship Program:
As we selected 15 new apprentices with a craft family background, we need to get more donations to have them try their hands on craft materials with family members through craft workshops.
Your contribution will directly support the pairing of children with the first trained students. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a significant impact and helps us in nurturing future talents while preserving the rich artisan heritage of our community.
